Golden Ticket is Here!

We’ve always wished we could jump into the magical land of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. But while we all can’t live in a land of sweets, you can earn double from your closet with a golden ticket!

Just like in Roald Dahl’s classic story, we’ll be putting 10 golden tickets in our selling bags over the next week. All you have to do is request a bag — then when it arrives, open it up to see if you’re the lucky winner! (Remember, only one bag request per person will be eligible.)

If you’re one of the ten lucky winners, you will earn double the money on your clothes — for example, if you earn $50 for your clothes, we’ll double your payout to $100. To be eligible, winners’ bags must be returned to us by May 31, 2013.

We have some serious Gatsby fever. With a new film based on the classic American novel set to be released in mid-May,1920’s inspired fashion is making a comeback.

The 1920’s were a revolutionary decade for fashion. For the first time, ladies shortened their skirts, showed off their ankles and bobbed their hair to express their changing roles and freedom in society. It seems commonplace today, but Coco Chanel was actually one of the first women to wear trousers!

So how do you wear this era without looking super dated? Look for drop waist tea silhouettes, Peter Pan collars, delicate fringe and feathered skirts or dresses. Beading and tassels go hand-in-hand when it comes to 1920’s fashion. Find lavish, deco-inspired accessories with by rich colors, bold geometric shapes, and ornamentation. To really pull this look off, it’s all about the styling — slick on some red lipstick and curl your hair to complete the look. Then order an Old Fashioned at your local bar, and get ready to embrace the era!

Oppan gingham style! We’re not talking about a new remix of Psy’s “Gangnam Style” but this patterned fabric should be worn on repeat this spring. So what is gingham, exactly? The pattern originates from an adjective in the Malay language, genggang, meaning stripes. It dates all the back to the 17th century but made it’s way into pop culture when Dorothy (and her little dog too) skipped her way down the yellow brick road in the Wizard of Oz.

During the 40’s and 50’s gingham took over and became a staple of “Americana” fashion, with country stars and pinup girls donning this pattern across the nation. We can’t help but think of apple pies, poodle skirts and sling-back heels.

This picnic-patterned fabric has made a comeback with the emergence of Mad Men-inspired retro fashions. Don’t be afraid to mix and match, either! We styled this ASOS baby blue gingham ankle pant with a patterned blouse, wedge cut-out heels and retro sunglasses. It’s the perfect print for Spring!

Did you know that the average American family discard an estimated 68 pounds of clothing a year? In 2006, 2.5 billion pounds of fabric were kept from the landfills by used-clothing purchases. Here at Twice our core mission is help the planet by giving garments a second chance.

But we do a lot more, too! In addition keeping clothing out of landfills, we’re always looking for extra ways to reduce our carbon footprint. We wanted to share some of the other ways we support our environment and help our planet.

All of the plastic bags we pack our garments in are biodegradable! After you throw away these bags away from your purchase, they head to landfills where they biodegrade in 9 months, as opposed to ordinary plastic bags which can take 20-800 years to dissolve!
Since we ship all over the nation, we try to keep our materials as eco-friendly as possible. All of our outbound packaging is 100% recyclable or can be reused for other shipping/packing needs. Our selling bags are recyclable #4, and the envelopes we package them are made from 80% recycled board.
Every week, we donate over 1000 pounds of clothing to our local Goodwill, where they can find new homes with people who appreciate them instead of in a landfill!

By upcycling, clothing and reducing purchases of new clothing, you can meaningfully reduce your environmental footprint. We thank you all for doing your part to recycle, reduce, and reuse!

Double up on Twice referral credit! Previously, you could only earn $10 for every new friend you introduced to us but starting this week you can get $20 of Twice store credit for each friend that shops and sells! Here’s how it works:

Log into your Twice account and click “invite friends” under My Account
Use your personal invite link to get the word out! Tweet it, share it on Facebook or email your buddies.
Earn up to $500 by bringing your posse to shop and sell with Twice (upped from our previous $100 limit).

Invite Them to Shop:
Spread the love! When your friend clicks her referral link, she’ll get $10 toward her first purchase, and you’ll earn $10 for yourself. Remember, shopping referral credit is paid upon the completion of your friends purchase.

Invite Them to Sell:
Help your friend clean out her closet, and make space for some new threads! When your friend sells at least $10 worth of clothing to us, you’ll both get $10 in store credit.

Keep Track of Your Credit:

We admit it, we have a problem — we can’t get enough of chambray. Our warehouse tends to look like a sea on chambray at least once a week (we swear we don’t coordinate this). Our love affair aside, not many people know the difference between chambray and denim.

There are more similarities than differences between the two but the main difference is the weight of the fabric. Chambray is the lighter of the two fabrics, in weight and in color — think of it is as denim’s baby sister. The lighter fabric is perfect for making button up shirts while denim’s weightiness is best used for jeans, skirts and shorts.

How do you style this? We love to button the collar all the way up and accessorize with a statement necklace, a colorful purse, and gold accents. Don’t be afraid to rock the jean-on-jean look too! There is a huge difference between canadian tuxedo done the wrong way and the right way.
